The airport was originally built in the 1940's as a location to train pilots for action in World War II. Over the years, the airport has been maintained and upgraded largely due to funding provided from the California Aid to Airports Program (CAAP). Today the airport has 9 permanent t-hangars, 5 Portable hangars, approximately 30 tie-downs, and provides aviation fuel sales. The airport is equipped with runway lights which are designed to be turned on at night by the pilots as they approach the airport. Further information about the airport may be obtained by contacting the Shasta County Department of Public Works at (530) 225-5661.

RUNWAY EXPANSION

The proposed project would upgrade the airfield design to meet Airport Reference Code (ARC) B-II standards and would extend the runway to the needed length of 5,000 feet. A new parallel taxiway would be constructed with a 240-foot separation from the runway as dictated by the design standards.  The preferred alternative requires realignment of Reynolds Road at the end of the airport. Most of the existing aircraft apron, hangars, and other building area facilities on the easterly side of the airport would be too close to the upgraded runway and /or realigned taxiway to meet applicable airport design standards.  Therefore they will be relocated.  The Design phase grant was applied fro but has not yet been awarded.  It is dependant upon receipt of approval of the EA (Environmental Assessment) from the FAA.  The EA was filed with the FAA April 2002.  At present the County is developing the project area by acquiring land adjacent to the airport to allow for the expansion and increase the protection zones.
