FALL RIVER WILD RICE
 Fall River Valley is home to Fall River Wild Rice, a small grower owned cooperative of farmers which was founded as The California Wild Rice Growers Association, Inc. in 1986.   The fertile soils, clean air, spring waters and crisp climate of our mountain valley offer ideal growing conditions for the natural cultivation of this native North American grain.

Wild rice isn't really a rice at all. It's the seed of Zizania palustris, a tall, blooming water grass that prospers in shallow lakes, marshes and streams. It is the only cereal grain native to the North American continent.

A flavorful, nutritious and natural food, wild rice satisfies the most demanding palate. With an enticing blend of smoky and nutty flavors, wild rice has long been a favorite, offering a unique taste and texture to meals throughout the entire year.  Chefs have known for a long time that wild rice is more than just an exciting side dish. They are tossing it into salads and soups, pancakes and muffins, stir-fries and even desserts. It is so versatile that the opportunities for you, the "Home Chef," to expand your culinary talents are endless.

Wild rice was a staple food of several Native American tribes who called it "manoomin" ("precious grain"). For those who have tried it and experimented with it, Wild Rice truly is "manoomin" - a culinary gem.
